I have woven this scarf from beautifully fine 40/2 pure linen thread, spun and naturally dyed in Bengal, India. The main color is a rich madder red, accented with highlight threads in indigo, topaz, and pale green, adding subtle depth and interest.
It is finished with a hemstitched edge and tassels, adding a special touch to the design.
Linen is an exceptionally sustainable fiber — breathable, biodegradable, and naturally gentle on the skin. With its crisp yet soft texture, this scarf is perfect for warmer weather or anyone seeking a wool-free option. It offers just the right touch of comfort without any extra weight, making it a versatile piece for effortless layering across the seasons.
To help protect the natural dyes, be sure to use a pH-neutral liquid detergent when washing.
Madder is a natural dye extracted from the roots of Rubia plants, mainly Rubia tinctorum, cultivated across India, Southeast Asia, Turkey, Europe, and beyond. Known as one of the oldest dyes, it produces rich colours like turkey red, mulberry, orange-red, and terracotta.
