Possum & Merino Yarn

January 16, 2014 By Lindy 3 Comments

Its been a very busy few weeks in my world. Firstly, I supply a shop in Queenstown with my weaving and I was asked if I would dye 10kgs of Possum & Merino yarn for them. Usually I only dye yarn for myself and my own weaving, so the amounts are quite small. This was quite a task and I had to dye it in 500 gram lots and all different colourways. It was tricky trying to get bright colours when the base yarn was quite a dark grey, but I am very pleased with the results.

If you are interested in the Possum & Merino Yarn, it is available at the Kiwi Wool Shop, Beach Tree Arcade, Queenstown Ph 03 4429563 email kiwigiftshop@hotmail.com.  Veronica stocks a wonderful array of yarns and hand knitted garments. Well worth a look if you are in Queenstown.

Lawrence is quite a destination for holiday makers, so the shop has been busy with customers and at the same time I have been weaving flat out completing an order for Touch Yarns. They have flown out to New York to take part in the Vogue Knitting Fair and needed some bright coloured throws. Thankfully I got them all done in time.

So now it is time to replenish my shop stock, and this is the first of some lovely pure merino throw rugs I am weaving. This is the warp and I am using my 8 shaft countermarche loom, and just at the threading up stage, but it won’t be long before this will be on the website. I love weaving in bright colours, makes me feel happy.

Hi. I was given a possum wool wrap but I don’t like the coloring. I’ve tried with Dylon dye but hast touched it. I left it overnight. Any tips?

Hi Barbara you need to use a dye that is suitable for wool. The Dylon dye you used is probably the dye for cotton. You need a hot water dye.
